About the Author
Tricia Drake (Tricky to her friends) started her line of custom handknit accessories, TrickyKnits, in 2008. Shortly afterward, a customer, who also happened to be a photographer, requested that she create a piece that could be used for photographing a newborn. From that first Eskimo Kiss Hooded Cocoon came Tricia's signature pieces for newborns and toddlers, knit with colorful, bulky yarn on unexpectedly big needles and accented with her own line of chunky handspun yarns. Her distinctly original pieces sell worldwide, delighting children, parents, and photographers alike. Tricia's line of ready-made items, pattern kits, and custom designs are available at her trickyknits Web site. She and her husband live in Nashville with their seven young children.

Somebody have a baby. Quick!

I don't like this book. I LOVE this book. I have never knitted anything for babies because I don't want to use that nasty acrylic baby yarn which is what I have always been led to believe is the appropriate thing to do. I prefer art yarn. Ms. Tricia Drake has created a book full of the cutest hats, blankets, cocoons and pods EVER using gorgeous natural fiber yarn. I love the idea these knit up quick (because I won't be spending months making gifts that may or may not be appreciated...) and are so stinkin' cute. Drake's writing style is fun and personable and enjoyable to read even if you never use the book for actual knitting. The photos are awesome! I would have paid twice as much for this book as what I paid on Amazon, that's how much I love it.

There are four sections. The first section discusses the why, the yarn, the needles and the few other tools you will need, plus a few technique based things like how to make a pom pom or crochet decorations. It does NOT teach basic beginner knitting stitches and does encourage beginners to get a beginner book or go online. I have found You Tube to be a TREASURE for learning different types of stitches and seaming, etc.

The 2nd section is all about hats. There are a total of 7 hat patterns, most include a couple different sizes (newborn, 3-6, 6-12) These hats will take a couple hours to make (!) and are so adorable.

The 3rd section is about wraps and blankets with a total of 6 patterns. The Hexagonal Hoodie is genius and the Birthday Wrap looks so airy, soft, luxurious and FUN and unbelievable for a blanket...quick to knit.

The 4th section contains 6 cocoon and pod patterns. My favorite for practical purposes is the Snuggle Me Nursing Cocoon, but every pattern is a perfect photo op for new moms and dads searching for the perfect "outfit" for baby's first picture.

Every pattern has tips, tricks, options, and yarn substitutions. It also lists manufacturers, colors, and contains a resource list in the back.

The only thing that would make this book better is if someone would have a baby so I can make some of these cute things. I might just have to stockpile instead.

Instant Gratification

The minute my package arrived, I was immediately drawn into the treasures of this book. The first day I found I was actually reading this lovely book filled with fun projects and adorable photos of babies. Fortunately I had the large needles and bulky yarns on hand, and by the second day I had finished 3 projects. It is easy to follow and produces beautiful results.

FINALLY a totally ORIGINAL pattern book!!!

I have to tell you, as a yarn shop owner I was so thrilled to find such a unique book of patterns with a totally original & surprisingly creative twist- chunky yarns & large needles. Each adorable design has multiple color option ideas and yarn substitutions which is ideal for me, enabling me to recommend a multitude of yarns available in my shop. I can suggest this neat book to my customers knitting on many different levels because the patterns are so clear & concise, making it such an easy sell- I'm on my second batch!

This book is a "MUST HAVE" for the knitter searching for truly innovative & NEW ideas. A diamond in the rough in a sea of ho-hum run-of-the-mill pattern books. This one really shines- and just wait until you see the photos!

Relief from PA behavior is a godsend

If you have ever been on the receiving end of passive aggressive behavior or if you've been told that you exhibit such behavior yourself, then buy this book and read it from cover to cover. This book holds the key to identifying passive aggressive behavior in all its forms and helps you to understand the various methods to defend against being sucked into the no win situation. PA behavior is insidious and it's so easy to fall into its trap before you even know that it's happening. Once you understand that you have options, you will find yourself letting go of all of the anger and frustration that PA causes. Don't be surprised if others are shocked when you take back control of the situation. This is the beginning of a life long journey to regaining your piece of mind.

This is such a fantastic book and SO helpful in dealing with passive aggressive people that I can't believe it hasn't been published to be more readily available for the general public. Absolutely the best book I have read on dealing with these sorts of issues. I got it as an inter-library loan since I couldn't afford to pay $45 for it from Amazon.

The videography with this series is poor and the written description are also poor but at least some ideas are gained throughout each chapter. I feel the authors are more concerned with getting a book out then getting a great book out. Please next time do close up definition video. Have the lead surgeon scrub in while his fellow films the cases right next to the Dr Karrams etc not over the right or left shoulder because of the shadows and head obstruction. Always concentrate on the operative field by staying to the right or left of the surgeon but not over the shoulder.

E-book Version of Dyce

Just a quick warning for anybody tempted to buy the e-book version: diagrams are missing (with a label saying they're not licensed for electronic use,) and the formatting of the e-book is bad. You'll have a diagram on one page, and the labels on another, so you have to constantly flip back and forth. If you want Dyce, stick with the paper book version for now, until the publishers can actually figure out how to put an e-book together well.

Textbook of Ve...ter...inar...y....Zzzz....Zzzz...Zzzz

This text was a required book in my first year vet anatomy course. I must say, the pictures and diagrams are only adequate. Meanwhile, the actual text itself was laborious to read and so full of jargon and unnecessary detail that it literally gave me a splitting headache each time I attempted to read it. Please, please, if this is not a required textbook, don't buy it! There are much better anatomy texts out there!

Not my favorite

Not one of my favorite vet textbooks. I find that it jumps around too much and the information isn't arranged very well, at least for me. Some of the pictures are ambiguous - one that comes to mind is a drawing of the canine phalanges where some of the sesamoid bones are drawn in very faintly, like the artist wasn't quite sure if they should be there or not.

Maybe I'll appreciate this textbook more when I get to comparative anatomy, but for readability, reliability and clarity on canine anatomy I much prefer Miller's Anatomy of the Dog.

Update 1/2/2012: Completed my third and final formal anatomy course in vet school using this text and I still don't like it much at all. I think the approach of trying to cover multiple species in a single book is admirable, but what ends up happening here is a mish-mash of details spread-out over various sections of the book that aren't easy to follow. I also continued to find it frustrating that some information was not presented clearly (whether in picture or textual description), leaving you to wonder what the correct anatomy was for a given topic. Finally, I noticed that the number of errors in the book increased in the later chapters; in particular, I remember the avian chapter having several obvious errors that even I, a novice, noticed right off. Not recommended.

Great resource

This book is a great resource for rehabilitation counselors. It shares great tips on how to get the most from interactions with other professionals such as doctors and psychiatrists, and is written in such a way that it's pertinent and fairly easy and fast to read. I have been using it for a class, but I recommend this book to anyone who wants to understand this profession better.

Chapter One

I heard the Candyman's voice as soon as I opened the door.

"Who can make the sun shine?" he asked.

Romeo leaned in close to me, whispered against the back of my neck, "He's in there."

It was October in Somerville, Massachusetts, and fall was whipping around us with flat orange leaves cutting through the cool orange light of late afternoon. I was going into my house with the man that I loved, that man I was too old to call my boyfriend and too square to call my lover. The man I thought of always as my good fortune, Romeo.

But the Candyman stopped me cold. It was a visceral reaction. Every time I heard him, I wanted to run screaming down the street.

"Sprinkle it with dew," the Candyman sang.

I closed my eyes and panted a little, a technique I used to help quell nausea. The thought of all that candy -- which had seemed like such a charming childhood fantasy, when I first saw the movie in 1971 -- now left me feeling like a six-year-old at ten o'clock on Halloween night. But it wasn't just the candy, it was the movie itself: the insipid singing, the cheesy sets, the tired diatribe of rich and poor and good and evil. Even Willie Wonka, who had once seemed so charming in all his twinkling subversiveness, now made me queasy -- because anyone will make you queasy after you watch him eat a teacup for the sixth thousandth time. According to my sloppy calculations, that was approximately how many times my granddaughter Sarah had watched Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in my house.

Oh sure, she'd been stuck on other movies before this. It had started out with Barney's Big Adventure, then progressed through Mary Poppins and The Little Mermaid, but those she only watched often, not constantly. Since the Christmas before last, when I so foolishly brought the plague of chocolate into our lives all wrapped up in red Santa paper, there had not been a day that she hadn't played the videotape.

If my mother could rise up from her grave to carp at me, she would say it was my own fault. "What business do Jews have giving Christmas presents in the first place?" she would say to me and shake her head in disgust.

And maybe she would be right. Maybe this was all a curse I brought down on myself. The video followed us like a debt, an insidious disease. There had not been a moment's respite, not even on the day that Sarah's mother, my daughter Sandy, had reached her absolute limit and yanked it out of the VCR and stepped on it again and again with the heel of her boot. Or that other day six months later when I completely snapped and pulled the tape from its casing, spooling out the celluloid like birthday ribbon. On both of those occasions we ended up racing to the video store with a wailing, hyperventilating child in our arms, as frantic as any family stumbling into the emergency room with a blue baby.

We discussed the possibility of seeing a family counselor or staging an intervention. We had been told by countless dispensers of free advice that Sarah would give up the tape as soon as we no longer responded to it, and so we trained ourselves not to respond, or to respond only behind a locked bathroom door with our faces pressed into a stack of towels.

I now repeated my mantra to myself: "It is just a noise like any other noise. It is just a noise like any other noise."

"Cover it with chocolate and collect up all the cream," Romeo sang with the Candyman, swaying me back and forth in a samba. Romeo, unlike his duet partner, had a nice voice. I told him to shut up.

"Have a sense of humor," he said. "It's a movie."

"It isn't a movie," I told him. "It's a dangerous, deadly device designed by children so that they can rule the world."

Romeo didn't live with me and therefore could not possibly understand. He thought that just because Sarah and her brother Tony sometimes spent the night at his house and she played the tape on his VCR, that meant he knew the score. But no one could understand it unless they had lived through it. Orwell and Kafka had nothing on an eight-year-old's obsession.

Cautiously, we peered past the entry hall. "Hello!" I called out. "Tony, Tony, Sarah, Sandy, we're home!" But the only living thing to amble into the room was Sarah's cat, a fat-faced orange tabby who purred and knocked against my shins. "Oompah-Loompah," I asked, "where is everybody?"

"Everything he bakes, satisfying and delicious," the Candyman replied.

We walked into the living room to see the thin man with Brilliantined hair on TV fling a fistful of butterscotch discs down onto the heads of little children, who scrambled like wolverines to get their share. He dispensed his licorice whips and egg creams even though no one was here watching him. Even Oompah-Loompah recoiled from the sugared carnage and left the room.

"Hello?" Romeo called, although no one appeared to be home.

I picked up the remote from the coffee table, aimed it at all the greedy children on television, and gave the off button a decisive stab. The sound that replaced that singing was crystalline, a silence as sweet and clear as a glacial lake. Had there been a glass of champagne at hand, it would have been quiet enough to hear the bubbles burst.

"Oh," I said, taking Romeo in my arms. "Will you listen to that?"

"What?" he said.

"Exactly."

He kissed me. "Where are they?"

"Do we care?" I kissed him back.

He nodded. "We care passionately."

We had not come home for any sort of funny business. We had come home because there was an extra case of gift cards stored in the hall closet, and we were almost out of them at our flower shops. Romeo had offered to come along because he wanted to pick up a new battery pack for the Dust-Buster.

But when you live in a house full of beloved family members, there is no aphrodisiac as potent or immediate as privacy. Youth is all about finding an opportunity to be alone with the person you want to be alone with, and once you are, you get pregnant, and from that moment on you're never alone again.

Romeo and I were sixty-three. Between us we had two houses, two flower shops, eight children, and ten grandchildren. He made me feel sixteen again, but a big part of that was our never-ending quest to sneak off somewhere.

He pulled back, kissed my nose, looked over my shoulder. "Go check the kitchen."

Part of what makes being sixteen so sexy is the stolen moment, sneaking around. Look! Mom and Dad aren't home! How much time do you think we have? For us, Mom and Dad had been replaced by our own children.

There was a piece of paper on the kitchen sink, with big letters written in black Magic Marker.

I held it over my head like the last find in a scavenger hunt. "God bless Sandy."

Romeo looked at the paper and smiled. "She leaves you notes. That's sweet. My boys could move to Tokyo and they wouldn't leave me a note."

"When she was a little kid, she'd leave me a note if she went to the bathroom." I wrapped my arms around his waist and buried my nose, still cold from the October wind, unabashedly into the side of his neck.

"But how do we know how soon soon will be?"

"We have plenty of time. Look," I said, holding up my wristwatch as if it were proof. "It's four-thirty now. Traffic will be at a standstill, and they couldn't have left more than ten minutes ago."

Romeo looked at the note again. "It doesn't say what time they left."

And here I smiled because finally, finally, that damn video was going to play to my advantage. "The Candyman song comes in the first fifteen minutes of the movie. If we piece the story together from the evidence on hand, I'd say Sarah turned the movie on at four-fifteen, and Sandy started to crack at the opening credits. She then told the kids she'd take them shopping. They must have left the house so fast they forgot to turn the television off."

Sarah never allowed herself to watch her favorite parts out of sequence, nor did she allow herself to skip past the parts that even she found excruciatingly boring, like Charlie's mother leaning in the miserable doorframe of the dismal alley where she boiled other people's filthy clothes for a few pennies and sang a song about how her son should keep dreaming.

Romeo put one hand on either side of my head. His eyes were brimming with love. "You're a genius."

"But what about Big Tony?" I glanced furtively at the ceiling above, as if he might be upstairs.

Big Tony, who was not an especially large man, was Romeo's son, as opposed to Little Tony, a very tall, gangly twelve-year-old, who was my grandson. Big Tony was married to my daughter Sandy, and all of them -- daughter, son-in-law, and the two children from Sandy's first marriage -- lived with me.

Tony and Sandy's marriage meant that Romeo and I were in-laws. I should point out that our love was not a crime against society or nature. There were are no laws in any state prohibiting the commingling of in-laws.

"Tony's in class. I know it because I dropped him off this afternoon," Romeo said.

Tony was studying for his degree in public health, but now that he had one year to go in the program, he was making eyes at medical school -- a financial impossibility of epic proportions seeing since he, like Sandy, was working for us in the flower shops.

Before the age of enlightenment, years ago, the families Cacciamani and Roseman had despised one another. Romeo and I were raised from birth to scowl and spit when the other one's name was spoken. This was because our parents, rival Somerville florists, had loathed one another past the point of all reason, and this was because his mother and my father had briefly, secretly been in love with each other (isn't that always the way?), though no one else was privy to this information at the time.

After Romeo and I grew into adults who hated each other, our children fell in love, and we took it upon ourselves to squash their nascent happiness like a bug beneath our heel. The Continuing Adventures of Julie and Romeo

Julie and Romeo is a fast and light read which reunites the two families we first met in Jeanne Ray's debut book Julie and Romeo. Like all of Ms. Ray's suceeding book this one doesn't fail to deliver the reader a fun time with the two families who once arch rivals and enemies, now friends and lovers.

While Julie and Romeo maintain their own homes which are filled with their children, grandchildren and Romeo's mother, their love for one another is still as intenseas when they were in high school and met again years later.But then Romeo has a back injury cdarrying Julie up the stairs and is confined to Julie's upstairs bedroom. And As if that wasn't enough Julie's daughter is preganant and confined to bed rest and where does she choose to do this but in Julie's living room. And rounding out the family dynamics is Julie's grandaughter whose family also lives with and is not only obsessed with the movie from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory but the lottery as well.

What ensues is a wild and madcap comedy of large families getting along and not getting along. The ending is a pure delight and has you wondering if there will be a next book to find out what adventues and misadventures the clans have been up to. In the tradition of a zany Frank Capra movie, this is a perfect read for a lazy summer's day.

A perfect little story

I really enjoyed this sequel, I think it is Ms. Ray's best book since she first introduced us to the characters in Julie and Romeo. Of course it could just be that I was so glad to be visiting these families again.

I won't go into the details of the story, the Amazon description does that quite well, but if you liked Julie and Romeo, you won't want to miss this one. I started reading and found I coudn't tear myself away until the end...I think Ms. Ray's readers are the "lucky" ones.

Humorous look at love and luck

Julie Roseman's life is complicated enough with her daughter Sandy, her son-in-law, and her two grandkids living with her. But when her true love Romeo Cacciamani damages his back in an ill-advised attempt to carry her up the stairs, he winds up confined to her bed for an indefinite period since he cannot be moved. Then Julie's older daughter Nora arrives on the scene with her own medical problem and moves in, and the house becomes very crowded. Throw in granddaughter Sarah's obsession with Willie Wonka and with lottery tickets, add regular visits from Romeo's sizable Cacciamani clan, and total chaos ensues. With all this confusion, there's not much time left for minding the family florist business. Although the situation seems difficult, Julie finds that good luck comes in family-sized packages.

This is the typical feel-good Jeanne Ray story, where the bustle and domestic squabbles of a close-knit household test the strength of the most patient of mothers, and where the family is brought closer together through love and a mild, and almost humorous, crisis. Ray's stories almost have the feel of fairy tales, since they tend to have happily-ever-after endings. In this one, Lady Luck is a veritable fairy godmother. I didn't enjoy this book as much as its predecessor, "Julie and Romeo," perhaps because as a sequel it didn't have the novelty of the original. But it was still a quick and fun read - the kind that had me smiling as I closed the cover. It's a great beach book.

I wasn't supposed to be here.

By October 2002, I'd become a literal shell of the man who'd sold out Madison Square Garden nineteen times, when the world knew me not by my birth name of Eldridge Wayne Coleman, but as Superstar Billy Graham, perhaps the first modern "sports entertainer" in the pro wrestling frater-nity. Now, when I stepped out of the shower, I'd shift my back to the mirror and turn out the light to avoid glancing at my reflection, knowing that my withered body could never measure up to what it was in my glory years -- charismatic, bronzed and blond, a spectacle with bulging veins, twenty-two-inch "pythons," and a rap that was more responsible for my drawing power than my actual wrestling ability.

"I am the sensation of the nation. The number-one creation."

Twenty-five years had passed since 1977, the year I became heavyweight champion of the World Wide Wrestling Federation (WWWF), the company now known as World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE). Our business was divided into dozens of regional promotions, but the WWWF was the biggest, stretching from Bangor, Maine, down to the nation's capital. Of all the towns around the horn, New York was the focal point of the territory, and -- in my opinion -- the criterion for everything.

It was a city that was both terrible and wonderful. In the places where my fans came from -- Queens, Brooklyn, and the Bronx -- the Son of Sam, a man later exposed as a pudgy postal worker, slaughtered innocent lovers passing time in their cars, then sent taunting letters to the press, convinced that his neighbor's dog had commanded him to kill. In midtown Manhattan, people were bathing in coke-induced disco decadence at Studio 54, while downtown on the Bowery, others were rebelling against it, as punk rock went through its toddler stage at CBGB's. The Bronx was burning -- with landlords torching tenements that were no longer worth the bother -- but nowhere as brightly as in Yankee Stadium, where Reggie Jackson fought the team's owner, manager, and the rest of the American League, slamming baseballs in the direction of the number 4 train that rumbled on the tracks behind the bleachers.

The city crackled with kinetic energy, and I was part of it. From the corporate towers of Wall Street to the heroin dens off Times Square, New York venerated Superstar Billy Graham, getting down on one knee in the middle of the ring at the Garden and flexing, while my manager, the Grand Wizard, stood behind me -- in wraparound shades and a red, white, and blue sequined turban with a feather sticking out of the top -- grooming my glowing locks with a comb he reserved for just such occasions. I wrestled Bruno Sammartino, symbol of immigrant pride, and took his title away by pinning him with my feet on the ropes. I fought Andre the Giant, the "Eighth Wonder of the World." I dragged the "American Dream" Dusty Rhodes around the ring with a bullrope. And I'd stroll out of the Garden and hail a cab as cops, pretzel men, and street walkers looked on in wonder. Because I was the Superstar, and I had that patter I learned as a teenage evangelist to lift up a struggling city and fill its soul.

Back then, I thought that I was indestructible, a concept enhanced by my gluttonous consumption of anabolic steroids. But thirty years later, I was paying the devil his due in large, painful doses. Nearly three decades of ingesting reckless amounts of Delatestryl, Winstrol, and Deca Durabolin had eroded away my joints -- my ankle was fused with bone from my pelvic area, both of my hips had been replaced, and my spine was collapsing. Hepatitis C had decayed my liver to the point of failure. My mind was confused because of the release of ammonia into my brain. My urine was as brown as Coca-Cola.

I was going to die.

Then, on October 18, Katie Gillroy, a beautiful woman I'd never met, was riding in the passenger seat of a pickup truck on Interstate 17, near Cactus Road, just a few miles from my apartment in Phoenix, Arizona. Police think the driver might have been cut off by another car and hit the brakes too hard, skidding into the median and flipping over. Katie was ejected from the vehicle and hit the guardrail. At 3:00 A.M., she was declared brain-dead.

Katie was only twenty-six years old -- vibrant, healthy, funny, and caring. She volunteered at the Humane Society, raised a small son as a single mother, and -- when she was just a teenager -- showed maturity and compassion far beyond her years. She signed her donor card. With that simple, selfless act, Katie saved my life.

I don't think it's fair that Katie Gillroy died at such a promising age, and left me on this earth with her liver transplanted in my body. I never imagined that God would literally give me a second chance at life. I've asked him about this, but I haven't heard back. Yet, here I am, still alive after all my mistakes, able to bask in the sun of the Arizona desert, hear the voices of my wife and grandchildren, and tell you the unvarnished story of Superstar Billy Graham.

There weren't any pyrotechnics or entrance music when I made my debut in this world on June 7, 1943. But I never needed those kinds of gimmicks to get a pop. Even in the delivery room, there was a lot of screaming.

I was a breech baby, coming out of my mother feetfirst. As I was being delivered, my umbilical cord wrapped around my neck. I was wiggling around a lot, and the doctor was scared that I'd strangle myself. So he drenched me in ether. Then he sent me home, still doused in the flammable liquid. Everybody smoked in my family -- my mother, my dad, my uncles -- and it's incredible that the house didn't blow up.

That was the first miracle in my life.

My mom, Juanita Bingaman, came from Paris, Arkansas. She had black hair and strong features and, somewhere in her past, was descended from Arkansas Cherokee. Throughout my life, I always felt an affinity toward Native Americans. I wore turquoise on wrestling interviews and incorporated it into the oil paintings I did at home -- aged Native American hands polishing blue stone; a warrior standing in front of his horse, his spear and shield held together with strips of leather. Part of me empathized with the outsider status forced onto the Native Americans on their own soil. Nonetheless, I'm convinced that my interest in Native American culture has less to do with my own ancestry than the fact that my parents chose to raise me in Arizona, among the Hopi, Navajo, and Apache, as well as the cacti, Painted Desert, and Joshua trees.

I was the last of Juanita's four children. I shared a father -- Eldridge John Coleman -- with my sisters Annette, six years older than me, and Joyce, two years my senior. My brother, Vance, was born in Arkansas in 1933, the product of a romance between my mother and some boy down there. I was very proud of Vance -- he fought in the Korean War, and became a police captain in Phoenix -- and have a framed photo of him in uniform next to my writing desk at home. But his presence in our household nearly split my family apart.

Joyce Coleman Sampson (Superstar Billy Graham's sister): My older brother was born out of wedlock. My grandfather chased the happy couple down before they could get married, and told my mother, "You're coming home with us." My grandfather said, "This boy will be raised in our home." He never gave the father a chance.

I have no idea what happened to that young man. But when Vance was about six years old, my mother met my father, Eldridge John Coleman. My father had bad feelings toward Vance. He never adopted our brother. So Vance's name was Bingaman, and the rest of us were Colemans.

When my mother's parents moved to Arizona, she moved, too. And she told my dad, "I don't care if you come to Arizona or not. I'm going, and I'm taking my son." She was going to divorce my dad because he wouldn't accept my older brother. But my father eventually followed her to Arizona.

I never knew that my first name was Eldridge until I wrestled in Japan and had to show my birth certificate to get a passport. Everybody called me Wayne. In fact, many of my close friends and family members still do. When you play a character for as many years as I played Superstar Billy Graham, there's going to be some overlap. But -- while other guys lose themselves in their personas -- I never stopped being Wayne Coleman.

My father came from Mississippi, raising chickens and turkeys on the family farm, while my grandfather, Tom Coleman, plowed the fields by mule. As a young man, my dad had wavy brown hair, a strong, chiseled face, and deep-set eyes. According to some relatives, at six-foot-four and more than two hundred pounds, he bore a striking resemblance to Superstar Billy Graham. As the city of Phoenix expanded, my dad drove telephone poles into the ground for the local power company, Arizona Public Service (APS). He used to wear shoes with metal hooks and clasps on the front and a belt that looked like a six-shooter, so he could climb up and wrap himself around the poles.

But I never saw that Eldridge John Coleman. By the time I was born, my father was no longer tanned or vigorous. Multiple sclerosis had driven him out of the sunlight and into a job as a shop foreman. In time, his face became puffy. The muscle between his thumb and index finger started to concave. Our backyard became overgrown, and my mother had to push him around in his wheelchair and pick him up to put him on the commode. I remember her having hernia surgery from lifting him so much.

Tangled Ropes

This is one of the best books I have ever read in along time. The story is just heart breaking what this great man like Superstar Graham had to go through.But what I love about this man is that he never gave up.With the help of his preciuos wife who never gave up on him. With Gods help they made it.Superstar Billy Graham God bless you brother. Frank Gonzalez

The mystery is at last, untangled...

Great book by the Joe Pepitone of pro wrestling. One can't help but empathize with The Superstar. This guy did pretty much all he could to die young. In spite of himself, he is a living testament to the indomitable human spirit. I highly recommend this book, to anyone REMOTELY interested in this colorful character.

The things you finally discover

A little background: I grew up in Central Illinois, and began watching "All Star Wrestling" on Saturday mornings. I would see these bulky bruisers like Nick Bockwinkle and "Da Crusher!", and really thought this stuff was real.

Then, out of nowhere, came this flamboyant, trash-talking, electrifying persona called Superstar Billy Graham, with his tie-dyed tights, Elton-John rhinestone sunglasses, and the biggest, baddest, most impressive physique I'd ever seen. He was unreal, and for the next year or so, he was THE GUY to watch for during the telecasts.

Then, just as suddenly, he disappeared. Vanished. The TV wrestling went on, and I sort of lost interest, and always wondered what happened to that Superstar Billy Graham guy.

Well, read this book, and you'll find out the whole story. Being so regionalized in those days, unless you were a hard-core wrestling hound, it would have been difficult TO know what happened to him in the intervening years.

What happened to him was he moved on to the NY region, was a smash hit in the NY area, got major juice as the heel to beat, won the belt in a titanic match, held it for about a year, sold out arenas everywhere he went, and then was forced to give up the belt to a true Baby Face named Bob Backlund, (WHO???), got messed up in his head and heart, got into drugs, and became - even more quickly than he arrived - one of the saddest also-rans in the business. Never ever regaining the Superstar persona that had so electrified crowds in the mid to late 70's.

You'll find out more about Wayne Coleman than you'd ever like to know otherwise. Its a fascinating backstage view of pro wrestling in the kayfabe era, and what it was really like to be a performer in those days. You'll discover the ups and downs of steroid use/abuse, and how it prematurely depletes the body of its essential elements. You'll meet a man who gave his life to one of the strangest forms of sport/entertainment on the planet, and find out what happens when the ride is over.

Its a very telling, and really well written book. Its a very honest, personable account that makes you feel you've actually met Wayne Coleman. Its easy to see how a lot of people could really not like him, but this fascinating account of who "The Superstar" really is and was is extremely interesting and compelling. I enjoyed reading this book very much, (similar to how I felt reading Gene Simmons book on KISS.)

I don't endorse pro wrestling at all. In all honesty, its about as Satanic an expression as exists these days. But for filling in a long ago mystery of what happened to the "Superstar Billy Graham," this book does all that and more. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to know the full story of the granddaddy of all modern wrestlers.
