History Book and Cookbook in One

This is part history book and part cookbook, telling the story in words and photos of Italian immigration to America and the establishment of "little Italy" neighborhoods, highlighting the history of 51 restaurants, bakeries, and markets from 14 cities that reflect Italian culture and cuisine. Recipes from the restaurants are included, from main dishes to breads to desserts.
I thought this was an interesting book even though I'm not Italian, and I found several good recipes to try including Chicken Parmesan from Alleva Dairy in New York City, and a pizza dough recipe from Tony Nitti's Bar-B-Que in Chicago. History buffs and cooks who enjoy Italian food will like this book.

A book still on paper

I ordered this book for a dear Italian friend for next Christmas. I may read it all before then- and I may want to keep it for myself. The recipes alone look amazing. Someone went to a lot of trouble to research the rich Italian history of this nation. I hope my friend will enjoy it as much as I have.

Great Gift

My Sicilian father seemed very pleased with this book as a Christmas gift. It's a stroll down memory lane for him (NYC's Little Italy and the Bronx) and a peek at some places he's never been, but can relate to. My only comment would be that there could be more pictures and it would be nice in a hard cover (like a "coffee table" book.
