Hey, dudes! Glad you took the chance on our book. Barry and I are really excited to have it finally published and getting into your hot little hands. Or big hands. Don't want to judge. The odds are, you dudes didn't buy the book for yourself. Most likely, you were gifted this Tome of Wisdom by a wonderful lady. Maybe at a baby shower, where, other than this book, you sat there, wearing cast-off bows on your shirt and wishing you were anywhere else other than there. That's all right. Really. We've been there. Barry and I each raised a passel of kids and we lived to tell the tale. Well, a lot of tales, rather than just one. And let's not forget that it's for certain values of lived, considering we're not trying to take into account quality of life or anything like that. We're here. We're breathing. That's all that counts in this one. However you got the book, you'll be glad you did. We poured our hearts and souls into this book. Metaphorically, you understand, as I'm pretty sure no one wants ground up cardiac muscle or carbonized soul mixe in with the ink used to print the book. Ugh. Bad visual there. Sorry. Anyway. The book is the distillation of every single funny story, every single sad object lesson, every single poopy diaper not changed correctly, every single withering look from either of our wives that asked us -- silently -- how it was possible we lived as long as we had and were still that stupid. . . It's everything you need to know about getting involved in taking care of a baby without too much collateral damage. Notice we didn't say no collateral damage. We're realists. When we were first starting out with our little dudes and dudettes, neither Barry nor I could find a book we liked that helped us understand what we were supposed to be doing. Not that there weren't books out there, but we couldn't sit still long enough to figure out all the big words in tiny type or stay awake long enough to read them. This is the book we wish we'd had when we were rookie dads. Here's the good thing about the book. It's not trying to tell you what to do. We're sure you get enough of that in your household on a rather regular basis. Instead, this book is all about how we did things. We're trying to give you a baseline skill set that you'll use to build your own method of baby raising. Think of the book as a playbook. We came up with the plays, but that's it. You're the one who has to study the plays, then walk up to the line of scrimmage, look over the defense, possibly audible, and then run the play. We are here only to help you know when it's a good time to call what play and where you need to go to hand off the ball. And we've got plenty of jokes. Not all of which involve poop. Some of them are about pee, so we're pretty diverse. So quit reading this stuff here and start reading the stuff in the book. Even if you don't want to do what we did, at least you'll have the knowledge that you know at least one thing that doesn't work for you and you can go from there. A great resource for new or about-to-be dads...

This was a great book in that it was casually/humorously written but helpful and informative. It had some "gems" that would be super helpful for the new dad who is still in that "oh-my-goodness-they-let-me-bring-this-baby-home-and-I'm-supposed-to-be-the-supervising-adult?!?" stage. This would be a great gift for dad at a baby shower (they never get gifts) or it would be a great way to tell your husband that he's going to be a dad.
Highly recommended. I look forward to future books from these authors.

An informative guide for first time parents.

I thought I knew everything there is to know about parenthood but after reading this book I realized I was wrong. One would think it was all common sense but in this book there are things we don't think about when we are expecting or bringing our precious cargo home.
This book is packed full of every aspect of parenthood from the time of conception to when the baby is moving about. It is geared for the fathers of the baby, but the mother can learn just as much as long as you can get passed the dude or dudette references through the book.
They stress how important it is to be for the pregnant mother during the morning sickness through postpartum depression that even men can experience. It even suggests waiting until the second trimester to announce the pregnancy in case of a miscarriage and you have to explain to family and friends how your joy turned to horror.
This book will help you learn how to hold the baby in it's first few weeks, how to bathe it, and even if the baby is circumcised and how to care for it. It stresses safety first for the child. It has quizzes and will give you top ten lists on all the stuff you need to know and will need to care for your baby. It will prepare you anything as it touches on every aspect of bringing up your child in a well-cared for environment.
Although this is written for fathers to be by fathers Richard and Barry, it is a great book for the mother to be also. Pick up this book or give it to expecting parents to read together. I promise you, there will be information you didn't even think of.

A Dude's Guide to Babies is great. The book should be required reading for all new fathers and all men contemplating matrimony who want to start a family. Heck, give it to grandfathers, too. They might get brave enough to try a few things they were too macho to take on when they were newbe fathers. Maybe, finally, they could get comfortable, be more useful with the grandbabies.
Brides should read this book too, to gather insight into how a man looks at marriage and having children. It scares the hell out of them. I think, as a woman I knew that, but I didn't understand why. It's the lack of knowledge, familiarity, the fear of doing something wrong, not knowing what to look for. Men are mechanic-minded, analytical beings. These authors give men permission to shape infant care to their own way of doing things. For instance, diaper changes--do them on the floor. Baby doesn't have a chance of falling. Keeping one hand on the kid at all times, of course. Babies are unpredictable, unreliable, tricky things; you have to stay with them, be in the moment, on guard at all times. Guys don't do diaper bags, they do backpacks.
I found the book entirely entertaining, positive, chock-full of no-nonsense information, easy to grasp tips, researched explanations wrapped up in humor and guy-speak. No, I don't think the guys can keep this one to themselves. Ladies, brides-to-be, grandmother, you must read this too; you're gonna love it and learn a lot. Kudos fellas.
