20 Minute On the Road Crossword Puzzles

Very engagning, this handy little crossword puzzle is like crack! For those of you who like Sudoku and fear the NYT Sunday puzzles, but want to play, these books are for you. These puzzles are challenging, but are not brainiac difficult. Whenever I am waiting, I pull it out of my purse and jump right in. They are a handy size to go anywhere, yet easy to read and tough. They don't come apart and I have wagged this one around for a couple of weeks. Great fun. Good stocking stuffer. But Duncan is all business when he and his partner DeeDee Bowen are called to Laird's house one night to find Laird's beautiful wife, Elise, has fatally shot an intruder. Duncan and DeeDee are immediately suspicious of Elise, who managed to kill the man, Gary Ray Trotter, with a single, precise shot. Elise denies knowing Trotter, but Duncan isn't comfortable dismissing the case as self-defense. When Elise comes to him with the seemingly preposterous assertion that her adoring husband actually wants her dead, Duncan is more suspicious of her, even as his attraction to her grows. He continues to pursue the investigation, despite the fact that Cato himself clearly considers the case closed. But when Elise's car is discovered on a bridge with a dead man in it and no sign of Elise herself, Duncan realizes he may have misjudged Elise and fears it might be too late to help her. Sandra Brown is back!!

After her last two books, White Hot and Chill Factor, I had little hope that I would like Ricochet. I am so glad that I picked this book up because it restored my faith in Sandra Brown.

Detective Duncan Hatcher's mission in live is to put drug lord Robert Savich behind bars for the rest of his life. During Savich's second murder trial, Judge Cato Laird declares a mistrial on a technicality. Duncan is incensed and more determined than ever to put Savich behind bars for good.

A few days later, Duncan and his partner are called to the scene of a burglary gone wrong. Duncan is shocked to find himself at the house of Judge Cato Laird, where his wife Elise, shot and killed an intruder. Though Cato is very attentive to his wife's needs, Duncan knows something is off. On top of that, he is battling his attraction to Elise Laird. Soon Duncan finds himself putting everything that was important to him in jeopardy...his ethics, his loyalty, and his self respect. Never had he found himself attracted to a suspect before.

When Elise Laird approaches him with an outrageous claim, Duncan doesn't believe her. He feels that Elise is using his attraction against him and refuses to give her the time of day.

When Elise goes missing, he tortures himself by thinking about how he could have prevented it. When bodies start turning up and Elise still isn't found, Duncan starts questioning if what Elise told him had any truth to it.

This book has so many twists and turns, it's hard to put it down. With the perfect combination of mystery and romance, I believe that lovers of Brown's older works (Envy, The Switch, Mirror Image) will love this book.

Believe Her or Not?

Sandra Brown is one of my favorite authors and with her emergence into the mystery/romance combination; her books usually keep me turning pages as fast as I can read them. However, RICOCHET seemed to miss the mark for me and only fell to the average range. That was a huge disappointment to me - Sandra Brown does not write average books.

RICOCHET focuses on Duncan Hatcher, a hunky police detective, who is bent on putting away a ruthless killer, Robert Savich. However, Savich's trial is declared a mistrial by Superior Court Judge Cato Laird on a technicality and Hatcher is determined to bring the man to justice at any cost which lands Hatcher in jail for two days on a contempt of court charge.

A strange twist of events soon puts Hatcher and his partner, DeeDee Brown, as primary investigators when the honorable judge's wife, Elise, kills an intruder at her home. Things don't add up for Hatcher and he leaves the case open until all of his questions can be answered instead of deciding it a simple case of self defense. The suspicions aren't all that are piqued with Hatcher; Elise gets under his skin like no woman has ever done before. Doesn't matter that she's married to the man who set his archenemy free, Hatcher can't get Elise out of his mind.

When Elise secretly meets Duncan and tells him that her husband is trying to kill her, it only adds more suspicion to the list. Nothing is adding up for Duncan with this beautiful woman and the judge seems too perfect to not be believed. Add into the mix another killing and the disappearance of Elise, and the reader isn't sure what the outcome will be.

The term "RICOCHET" doesn't have anything to do with the actual story - it's what happens to the reader as he/she is tossed back and forth. I went from believing Elise, to not believing her, to maybe believing her, and back again. Talk about a rollercoaster ride... but it wasn't thrilling and instead left me with a bit of motion sickness. I was tossed back and forth a few too many times to feel comfortable. In fact, at the end I was to the point of actually saying, "Who cares... just end it and tell me." That's not how I like feeling during the climax of a well thought out story.

Character development was hit and miss. Duncan Hatcher was well developed and we could see the angst his actions had on his emotional state - he was the son of a preacher and being involved with a married woman wreaked havoc on his mind. DeeDee Brown was fairly well developed - tough, opinionated and strong. In fact, I'd like to see a follow-up book with her as the main character! Elise was not well developed but that was intentional. The reader couldn't grasp whether she was a con artist or a poor soul with tragedy striking at every turn. Savich was not as well developed as he could have been, even though the reader was definitely left with the feeling of dislike. Judge Cato Laird was the one who got too much page time. The numerous emotional scenes we endured when his wife was missing and presumed dead was overkill.

Overall RICOCHET was a decent book but not one of my favorites written by Sandra Brown. I much preferred her previous works, WHITE HOT [...]

Surprisingly dull

Sandra Brown's books are usually very engrossing and enjoyable. However, this was the one exception. Except for the opening scene, there was very little in the way of drama or action. It was mainly police interrogations followed by the "he said...she said" type of stuff. And I grew weary of reading about Detective Hatcher's hard-ons for the victim/suspect (who happens to be married) on every other page. I normally finish a good book within 4-5 days and I had reached the point where I was dreading having to pick this one up. It took two weeks for me to make it only halfway through the book before I decided to put it down for good.

I have one of the early books in this series and I found it very useful. I was very happy to find this books which is a collection of the previous books. It has useful tips about cleaning almost everything around the house. I love the spiral binder so the the book will lay flat when you are using. The tips are very easy to understand and use. I gave my original books to a young mother who was just becoming a housekeeper and she loves it. I would definitely recommend this book or one of the early books like this to a new housekeeping person.

Handy to keep around...

This has been useful enough to have around. Nothing incredible, but how amazing can a cleaning tip be--- if it's known, it's bound to have been around for ages. Not to mention, this book is mainly useful as reference--- it is not put together/written well enough to be fun read through. Nothing you can't find with one type into google if you need it-- but handy if (god forbid ;)) your internet is ever down or you don't like turning to the computer as your first resource for everything.

History Book and Cookbook in One

This is part history book and part cookbook, telling the story in words and photos of Italian immigration to America and the establishment of "little Italy" neighborhoods, highlighting the history of 51 restaurants, bakeries, and markets from 14 cities that reflect Italian culture and cuisine. Recipes from the restaurants are included, from main dishes to breads to desserts.

I thought this was an interesting book even though I'm not Italian, and I found several good recipes to try including Chicken Parmesan from Alleva Dairy in New York City, and a pizza dough recipe from Tony Nitti's Bar-B-Que in Chicago. History buffs and cooks who enjoy Italian food will like this book.

I ordered this book for a dear Italian friend for next Christmas. I may read it all before then- and I may want to keep it for myself. The recipes alone look amazing. Someone went to a lot of trouble to research the rich Italian history of this nation. I hope my friend will enjoy it as much as I have.

My Sicilian father seemed very pleased with this book as a Christmas gift. It's a stroll down memory lane for him (NYC's Little Italy and the Bronx) and a peek at some places he's never been, but can relate to. My only comment would be that there could be more pictures and it would be nice in a hard cover (like a "coffee table" book.

Waldman Atlas of Interventional Pan Management

The book is great however the half of the index is missing. I returned it to Amazon and they shipped another book with the same exact problem. One would think they would check this since I explained the problem in detail when I called for the return. What to do now? I use the book daily do I risk returning it againg for the same problems since it must of happened during printing since the books I received were still wrapped in plastic.

Not worth to buy

Although it has nice colored diagrams that may be helpful in a presentation or teaching students, it is oversimplified and useless, I regret buying it.
